the truth on mike & mike

Ok, let’s just face facts here. I’m a delinquent blogger. I think I’ll blog a lot more when the NFL and NBA start up again. Every time I even think about blogging these days its to bitch about Manny Ramirez. I think he’s clearly occupied enough real estate on my blog already. I spend a lot more time on the internet on my phone these days too. Twitter and Facebook are particularly easy to update from my Sidekick. Maybe I’ll see if Wordpress has a plugin to make it easier to update from my phone.

Anyway, enough about my dereliction of duties… Paul THE TRUTH Pierce is co-hosting with Greeny on Mike & Mike this morning. It’s like I died and went to heaven and Christmas morning all rolled into one. An entire episode devoted to talking about my beloved Celtics and their championship. Even Donnie Wahlberg called in. Good times, good times. I’m tired because I stayed up until after 1am watching the Wms Gymnastics All-Around competition. Congrats to Nastia and Shawn, but I’m exhausted. Oh and a shelf collapsed in my kitchen around 3am and scared the bejesus out of me and my dogs. My boston terrier was completely traumatized, so I had to console her for a half hour before going back to bed. Aye yay yay.

justin timberlake for president!

I’m serious. I’d vote for him. I had heard his performance at the ESPYs was great, but man… I was laughing like a fool. The Celtics puppets were one of my faves. Where he has the Garnett puppet yelling, “Anything is possible!” Hehehe. I loved when he stuck his hand in Mario Chalmers face and said, “Is that so hard Memphis?” Oh and when he hugged Aaron Rodgers. *sigh* I could just relive that broadcast all night. Good times, good times. Oh oh oh… and at the end of the night, when the Celtics won the best team award and Ray said, “…another win in LA” and the crowd booed. That was sweet. Didn’t completely make up for having to stomach all those NY Giants awards *blech*, but it helped.

Oh NY Giants, how I hate thee. Let me count the ways. Here’s to hoping Jeremy Shockey has a great year for the Saints and the Giants go down in flames. I still like Eli Manning (it’s hard to hate on Opie Taylor) but the rest of that team of cocky a-holes can suck it.

Danica Patrick and Milka Duno. Sigh. Do you really have to have a girlie bitchfight on camera? Perpetuate the stereotype much? I think Danica needs to start putting up or shutting up. If she’s going to haul her overpaid, overhyped ass to other racer’s pit stalls, the least she could do is throw up punch. In this particular case though, she’s right about Duno being a pain in the ass on the track due to lack of talent. She’s like a construction cone and someday she’s going to hurt somebody. Still though, Danica should either take a swing or as Lebron would tell his own mama, “Sit yo ass down!”

I’m boycotting the Red Sox games until they come back home. I can’t be expected to watch games that start after 10pm. Sure, I’m up much later than that. But, that’s my time to watch trashy reality television shows on E! and I’m not changing my ways. Plus, they got swept in LA and I’m not wasting my time watching them lose on the road. Wow, Jed Lowry looks young. The call-ups always look like babies to me. Ok fine, I’m watching tonight’s game. Pre-game anyway. Dice-K’s on the mound. I doubt I’ll last, but I’ll give it a shot. Oh and Dear Manny — Grow the frack up and stop playing reindeer games with Sox management. Thanks babe. Love, me.

I watched the last 2 minutes of a WNBA game tonight. A total melee broke out. Candace Parker, Rick Mahorn, and two other players got ejected. It was good times. The commentators were yammering about how it was such an awful display and totally shaming the WNBA’s image etc… You know what’s a shame ladies? The fact that nobody gives a rat’s ass about the WNBA in the first place and the star players only earn about a fraction of what Celtics bench player, Gabe Pruitt made last year. That’s a shame.

KG!Earlier tonight, I may have watched Game 6 of the NBA Finals again… It was sweet. I need to swap out that DVR w/the cable company peeps so I can get an HD DVR since I upgraded my TV and unfortunately, I can’t get the contents onto a writable DVD disc. So that means that all 20 hours of Celtics coverage (the games, parade through beantown, parade at red sox game, very special episodes of celtics now on nesn, etc..) will be gone forever. Such a tragedy. So, during my vacation, I’m planning to watch all of it at least two or three more times before I have to part with it. Sigh. Speaking of Celtics, Eddie House and Tony Allen got picked up for two more years. That’s cool. I’m still disappointed to lose the love of my life, James Posey, but I guess if he’s gone for good, I’m glad we aren’t losing anyone else.

gino dances in heaven

Yesterday’s Red Sox game was fun. Bucketloads of homers will do that. Today’s game… not so much. Senor spandex really owes Dustin Pedroia a lobster dinner for catching that ball to save the 2-1 victory. Sigh.

Patrick O’Bryant is now a Celtic. Still waiting for word about senor manhug. I discovered some sad sad news today. Gino is dead. Long live Gino!

osi umenihateyou

Son of a bratwurst, I thought of all these things I wanted to blog about today on my ride home from work (I have an hour commute and it keeps me from flipping off all the tools who fly by me yapping on their cell phones with one hand and smoking cigarrettes with the other — hey, who needs hands to drive? Not them, apparently!) and now I’ve pretty much forgotten all of it. Oh wait, now I remember… one of the things anyway.

Can I call an end to ESPN subbing in professional athletes to fill in for Mike Golic this week on Mike & Mike? I had no idea how much I truly despised Osi Umenurabastard until today. What a cocky monkeynut. Ok fine, I’m still bitter about the Superbowl, but damn… I wanted to fist fight him over pretty much every statement coming out of his mouth. He’d kill me of course, but that’s neither here nor there in a fictional fist fight. In a fictional fist fight, maybe I kick his ass.  It’s nice to finally have an NFL team to hate. I really want to hate the Colts, but they just aren’t that hateable. Even the Cowboys haven’t stepped up far enough to draw my ire yet. The Giants however, they’ve finally earned my eternal loathing.

Red Sox are playing right now. Wakefield is pitching. I’m not gonna lie, I don’t have a great feeling about it. I hate road games. Fenway is so much more fun. The familiarity of the park is better and of course the fans are wayyyyy better.  Cora just screwed up a routine play and then Cash missed a throw so the Rays draw first blood. Maybe if I switch the channel they’ll start playing better. The WNBA is on ESPN2. Ah, so that’s where Ivory Latta ended up.

I can’t wait to see where all the NBA free agents land. I heard that the Celtics offered contracts to both Posey and Maggette. Interesting. I love James Posey. Love love love him. I hope he stays, but I have a feeling he’s heading to warmer pastures. I think he really missed Miami this season even though he won a championship in Boston. I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up somewhere where the sun shines a lot more. We’ll see.

celtics duckboat rolling rally

I had to wait until 6:30pm to see the Celtics duckboat rolling rally (TV rerun). It was a bummer not getting to see it in person, but I don’t feel like I missed all that much. Unlike the Red Sox rolling rally, there was no band (I guess the Dropkick Murphys are exclusive to the Red Sox celebrations - hehe) and nobody playing air guitar with a broom a la Papelbon. It was nice to see the players waving to fans with cigars hanging out of their mouths (ode to Red Auerbach), but I was expecting something a little zanier. Well, I guess there was one zany thing… Dude, my eyes.

My favorite photo of the day

celtics are nba champs!

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Celtics! NBA Champions! I was up until 2:00am watching interviews on the New England sports channel. A few thoughts.

1. KG is nuts. Certifiably insane. I LOVE that about him!
2. Paul Pierce definitely deserved the MVP finals award. He was terrific.
3. What was up with Lamar Odom poking people in the eye? The Three Stooges called, they want their schtick back.

more to come… off to a meeting right now.. damn work!

Update: Ok finally phew. I think it’s incredibly selfish of my employers to expect me to manage their websites all day rather than updating my own blog. Sheesh.  More thoughts…

4. It really bugged me that so many people picked the Lakers and didn’t believe in the Celtics, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. If you didn’t watch every game all season like I did and you were just going by the Hawks and Cavs series, I guess you would have to question whether the C’s could get it done.

5. I’m not surprised that some people are complaining about the Celtics running up the score. Being a Patriots fan, I’m used to hearing that. All I have to say about that is that whining about it is weak. If your team doesn’t want to get embarrassed then they should play better. They didn’t even defend Tony Allen and Glen Davis at the end of the game. It was the Lakers who decided to just stop playing… so they deserve the lopsided score they got.

6. I’m going to miss all the drama of the NBA during the off-season. This has been the best season for me as a fan since I started following the NBA full-time. I’m going to miss reading all my favorite basketball blogs (presuming they take a hiatus), I already miss my Pistons podcasts (don’t ask, I can’t help it that they’re my second favorite team), and most of all, I’m going to miss The Basketball Jones podcast. I got used to checking for those every day around 10-ish EST and usually by the time my first meetings of the day were out, there would be a nice ep. waiting. *sigh*

7. I will keep blogging during the off-season, but now I will have to switch to Red Sox, Patriots and reality TV. Maybe I’ll cover the Tila Tequila finale if I can gather up my energy.

peter vecsey can suck it

Ron Artest blows, I mean interviews, KobeI hate to lend credence to ridiculous statements, but what the hell, I’m feeling kippy tonight. Where does Peter Vecsey get off saying Garnett isn’t a franchise player? Is he kidding me? Also, note to Ron Artest, you might not want to mention puppies to make your point when you have police records for animal abuse. I guess I’m not too surprised that Ron-Ron is supporting the Lakers. He is after all the guy who recently interviewed Kobe and was so fawning about it that I actually half expected him to get down on his knees and offer the Mamba a nice long blowjob.

Fake Franchise Player? Bitch, please.

Go Celtics! Beat LA!

celtics v. lakers - game 5

That’s ok. I wanted to celebrate the championship in Boston anyway.

josh beckett sure can bunt

Oh Josh Beckett, how I love thee… He looks so funny with a bat in his hands. I forgot we were interleague-ing it today and thought I was seeing things. The first time up, he wasn’t really trying all that hard and started to walk off after strike two. They had to call him back to the plate. Then he hit it right to the pitcher. The next time up, he bunted it right to the pitcher. Earlier the Sox hit a bunch of homers off Homer Bailey and now they’re up 9-zip. Is it just me or is that park really easy to hit home runs in? It isn’t every day that Coco Crisp hits home runs two games in a row. No offense to Coco, but this must be the shallowest park ever.

So tonight’s the night… we make history… honey you and I. Well, maybe. I guess we’ll find out if Kobe Bryant really can “take over any time I want” or if KG’s “we not me” philosophy will win out. It was interesting this morning watching the pre-game coverage on ESPN. Bill Walton made a comment about how Kobe and Phil Jackson blame the rest of the team and constantly say they’re not good enough and how that must negatively effect their psyches. I couldn’t agree more. Bill & I are pretty decent arm chair shrinks if you ask me…

suck on THAT spike lee

Sweet mother of shamrocks and all that are holy! That will teach me to blog before the game is over. Who could’ve predicted a comeback like that though? I have all the belief in the world in the C’s talent, but there is no way on god’s green earth I ever thought they would be able to overcome a 24-point deficit. Hot damn! Now I’m in a quandry, if I stick with my Celtics in 7 prediction, I’d be essentially saying that the Lakers will win one in Boston and I just flat out do not see that happening. But, I absolutely despise waffling, so I guess I’m just going to have to stick with my original prediction. As long as the Celtics win the championship, I’ll be happy to be wrong.

Kobe looked a little pissed after the game.  During his press conference, all I could think about was Bill Russell’s interview with KG. He told KG that he was going to have to put his arms around his teammates and guide them to a championship… it wouldn’t work to try and drag them there. Something Kobe will never understand. You can have all the fight and desire and be the best player on the planet, but your teammates have to be guided along the way and not yanked, bullied, and chided.

It’s not over. I expect the Lakers to come out swinging for their lives on Sunday. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I hope Spike shows up again. He’s apparently a good luck charm.
